ORGANISMI & HARMONIE – KIM SEUNG HWAN

Special Projects

Organismi & Harmonie – Kim Seung Hwan

The program “People & Stories” by Superstudio continues in MyOwnGallery, extraordinary stories of artists and creatives in the fields of art, design and fashion. Artist, sculptor, cultural entrepreneur and finally in the last decade, designer, it is difficult to define Kim Seung Hwan in a single discipline. “ORGANISMI & HARMONIE” presents a hybrid collection between sculpture and design, thus delineating the new aesthetic direction undertaken by the artist. The exhibition curated by Martina Corgnati highlights artifice and nature, modernism and archaism that reunite in the geometric and mathematical laws and highlights the impeccable dominion of the Korean sculptor of plastic materials, from bronze to polystyrene to stones. Kim Seung Hwan began his career in the nineties in Pietrasanta where he attended the Academy of Carrara, and then continued his journey in Asia. In 2008, together with his wife Lanki Jung, he founded the great center for contemporary art Dio Art Center at the gates of Seoul, which hosts and produces exhibitions, installations and film festivals dedicated to Italian and Korean authors. Today he has 30 solo exhibitions and over 320 collective exhibitions. His sculptures, also monumental, are found in public spaces and private collections around the world. The artist has chosen the MyOwnGallery gallery at Superstudio for his return to Italy and Europe after almost 30 years, a preview of the next stage during the Milan Design Week 2020.

“The works of Kim Seung Hwan are exquisitely modern forms and objects but at the same time mindful of timeless and universal values and feelings: the man with his desires and his limits, the space inside and outside of us, life and its forms always becoming “[…] Martina Corgnati
