Glider Chair

The Glider Chair Project evokes images of a glider plane’s aerodynamic lightness, and memories of childish delight in folding a paper plane. The basic elements of both chairs are created solely by folding and bending. The Beuys-Series, presented at Superdesign Show 2025, is produced in 9mm wool felt, and refers to Joseph Beuys’ plane crash at the Crimean front during WWII and his subsequent rescue and healing by tartars (nomads), who coated his body with fat and wrapped him in felt. The Beuys-Series will be followed by The Hodja-Series, in which the chairs are produced in handknotted wool rugs. This series takes inspiration from a classic Danish children’s book about the adventures of nine year old Hodja and his flying carpet.
