Shaped by Air
The projects of the four winners of this year’s Lexus Design Award meet Shaped by Air, a new interpretation of the latest Lexus Electrified Sport coupé signed by New York designer Suchi Reddy. Partially made from recycled consumables the installation perfectly fits with the company’s ethos, its drive for innovation, and its concern for environmental issues, without neglecting its aesthetics. Tailored for the rooms of Superstudio, at first glance it appears elusive and undefined. As soon as one gets closer, however, the silhouette of a car emerges, shaped by light and sheets which, descending from the ceiling, look like sculptures reminiscent of HenriMatisse’s cutouts.
A spatial experience engages all the senses in a dialogue between art, design, and innovation, which nicely conveys the zero-impact vision of a company that is always on the cutting edge.
